"Leibniz on Pascal's True Method"

ABSTRACT

In this study, we propose to reconstruct Leibniz’s reading of De l’esprit géométrique with a double objective. The first is to shed light on certain aspects of Leibniz’s epistemology through the references to Pascal’s thought of method spread out in the programmatic writings of Scientia generali between 1677 and 1690. The second is to gain a retrospective understanding of Pascal’s epistemological thought by examining a logical interpretation of the manuscript of De l'esprit géométrique in the 17th century.
